Driven by the “storage upgrade” trend, custom walk-in closets are no longer exclusive to large apartments. Demand in small-to-medium apartments has risen by over 50% year-on-year, spurring enterprises to accelerate the layout of differentiated products.
According to Q3 2025 research data from the China Home Furnishing Industry Association, the market size of custom walk-in closets is expected to exceed 30 billion RMB this year. Demand for compact walk-in closets in 80-120㎡ apartments has surged by 52% year-on-year—for example, search volume for “L-shaped mini walk-in closets (within 2.5m of wall space)” for 89㎡ three-bedroom apartments grows by 30% monthly.
Compared to traditional standalone cabinets, custom walk-in closets excel in “scenario-based storage”: for example, styles targeting professional women include silk dress hanging areas (with wrinkle-resistant hangers), jewelry drawers (with flannel linings); for families with children, they add kids’ clothing zones and toy storage compartments. Meanwhile, environmental friendliness has become a core selling point—over 80% of consumers prioritize E0-grade or higher panels, and some high-end products include “smart sensor lights” and “dehumidification modules.”
Industry experts note that custom walk-in closets are now evolving from “single storage” to “space linkage”: for example, connecting with entryway cabinets to form an “entry-changing” workflow, or combining with dressers to create an integrated “dressing-storage” area. Enterprises specializing in cabinets, dining sets, etc., are also expanding into walk-in closets, further driving competition and innovation in the segment.
